Key changes under the Codes
- The Code on Wages, 2019 has a new definition of “Wages” that is likely to disrupt the current wage structure of the organisation and requires restructuring in order to optimise the cost impact
- Several other key changes have been introduced by the Codes, including a wider applicability of the law by virtue of defining “employee”, changing norms around fixed term employment and bringing in criminal prosecution
- Along with the wage structure, HR policies and processes, from selection to separation, will need to be reviewed and revamped to align with the requirements under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020, The Social Security Code(SS) Code, 2020 and the Industrial Relations (IR) Code, 2020
