Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination are the hallmarks of a progressive and ethical workforce management. The primary catalyst to achieve the same is to adopt a mechanism of extending equal opportunity in all matters of employee life-cycle, viz., recruitment, employee benefits, employee engagement, and employee promotion. The principal means to integrate such mechanism is to put in place an Equal Opportunity Policy. As a matter of fact, having a well-drafted Equal Opportunity Policy is now a legal mandate, even for private establishments, under The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and the Rules framed thereunder. Though the legislations do not prescribe a format to be followed, employers are expected to clearly lay down the measures which would further the objectives of the laws. The Equal Opportunity Policy is required to be registered with the appropriate authority and notified to the employees.
